All of us at Mango are appreciative of what we have, both tangible and intangible. Through Opportunity International we have the ability to give a “hand up” not a “hand out” to deserving individuals and communities. Poverty is a reality all over the world, even in Australia, and microfinance is one way to address this. Opportunity International is a non-profit organisation that provides micro-loans to people living in poverty to help them start or grow their own business. We also plan to establish a Mango microfinance stream to enable projects which our team have worked with or founded to be developed.
The horrors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation are reality for many people across the globe, and for some close to home. Hagar is an international Christian organization dedicated to the protection, recovery and community integration of survivors of human rights abuse. Such a basic loss of human rights is abhorrent to us at Mango, and we endeavor to support Hagar where we can, through donations of money, time and resources.
We support the WA District of Toastmasters International, a worldwide leader in public speaking education, with online course enquiries and payment facilities for their renowned Speechcraft courses.
The Heart Research Institute (HRI) is an internationally recognised research institute that performs cutting-edge cardiovascular research. The main focus of this research is to gain an understanding of the development and progression of atherosclerosis: the dominant cause of heart disease. At Mango we adopt Hero of the Heart Lions which have pride of place in many a child’s bedroom.
In a time when we are relying on computers and technology more than ever, we are facing a world-wide shortage of people with coding skills. By providing fun, free and social learning environments we help to motivate young people to get coding and collaborate with each other. CoderDojo WA is part of a global open source social education movement called CoderDojo. The mission of CoderDojo is to offer fun, free and social coding clubs to young people that inspire them to get coding. setting them up to become creators, rather than consumers of technology. We support Coder Dojo WA through our staff volunteer.
